“Make It Up As I Go” tells the struggle of a young man recovering from a serious skate injury that leaves him out of the game. The main protagonist tries to return to his regular life. But things have changed, and he’s trapped in the memories of a perfect day.
We shot the music video during 2 days of August and decided to process all the frames in an analog rotoscope technique: we printed them, painted each one with acrylic and recaptured them in After Effects. The idea was to create a scrapbook-like effect where past and present appear together. We also incorporated a performance by Shinoda and K.Flay in a ripped paper collage style which provides a counterpoint to the story of the young man struggling with his rehabilitation.
