Green Day

Lyric video

Working for Green Day was a turning point in my career. They were one of my favorite bands during my teens, so I had a lot of things to recall in my memories to search for inspiration… Despite the fact that the deadline was really tight (we executed the piece in 9 days!), I knew instantly that I must do it.
As a lyric video, this was going to be a type driven project, so I decided to ask my friend Pablo Bosch for help with typography and lettering.
Inspired by the DIY philosophy, I wanted to do an homage to the hardcore/punk fanzine aesthetic. I used multiple assets of various sources and merged them with a cut and paste collage technique. Photocopied textures and halftones patterns were the key thing to unify the result.
I decided to add a little depth to the project by building a really tiny story. That’s how I came up with the idea of a couple of punk lovers acting like two super heroes of the disaster. I shot them in front of a green screen. Then, I composed their actions with old and strange vintage machine images I came across inside an old encyclopedia.
Finally it was time for animation and compositing, so I asked my good friend Holke79 for help. He’s a really skilled motion designer who did an incredible job with the animation, making some killer transitions and working with the posterize technique to enhance the DIY look and feel.
